Ply Gem Glass Railing Systems: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Ply Gem-compatible glass railing system parts across West Palm Beach, with most replacements running $280 to $640 per panel installed, depending on glass thickness and hardware condition. If your panel is cracked, a post base is lifting, or the top rail has worked loose in the salt air, we can usually match the part and complete the swap same day. Most owners discover the failure the same way: a panel starts rattling in the wind off the Intracoastal, or a guest leans on the rail and feels give that wasn’t there last season.

TruePane Windows & Doors is an independent glass and glazing contractor. We are not affiliated with Ply Gem, but we have worked with their railing lines long enough to know which parts fail first in this climate and which replacements actually hold up.

Which Ply Gem Models This Applies To

Ply Gem glass railing systems span three main lines we see regularly in West Palm Beach: the RDI Endurance series, the RDI Transitions series, and the Ply Gem Pro Series glass rail. The Endurance line is the one we replace parts for most often. It uses 6mm tempered glass panels held in stainless steel clamps with a two-piece base shoe anchored to concrete or wood decking. The Pro Series runs a heavier aluminum top rail and is common on newer condo balconies along Flagler Drive and in the rebuilt sections of El Cid.

The fastest way to identify your part is to look for the laser-etched stamp in the lower corner of the glass panel. Ply Gem marks tempered glass with the model line and the year of fabrication. If that stamp is worn or the panel was installed before 2015, measure the glass thickness with a caliper at the edge. 6mm panels were standard until roughly 2018. After that, Ply Gem moved many coastal-market kits to 8mm for stiffer wind performance. Getting this measurement wrong means a replacement panel that does not seat in the original clamps. On the hardware side, we stock both the OEM rubber gaskets and the aftermarket EPDM versions that resist UV breakdown better than the original material. For anything near the water, we recommend the aftermarket gaskets. The OEM ones harden and crack within three to four seasons of direct salt exposure.

Signs Your Ply Gem Glass Railing Systems Is Failing

  • Panel rattle or chatter in wind. The rubber gaskets inside the base shoe have compressed or cracked. This is the earliest warning sign. Left alone, the glass begins riding metal-on-metal against the clamp and can chip at the bottom edge.
  • Top rail feels loose at the corner posts. The set screws inside the rail have backed out from thermal expansion cycles. In summer heat, aluminum grows by a visible amount. In winter, the screws lose tension. A rail that moves more than a quarter inch needs the hardware retorqued and likely thread-locked.
  • White residue or pitting on the base shoe. This is electrolysis from stainless fasteners meeting aluminum in a salt environment. It spreads under the powder coat and eventually eats through the metal. We see it most on oceanfront balconies in the South End and on dockside railings along the Lake Worth Lagoon.
  • Glass panel sits crooked or the gap between panels changes from top to bottom. The base anchors are pulling out of the deck. This is structural. Concrete pool decking around West Palm Beach takes a beating from summer rains and standing water, and the anchor bolts eventually lose their bite.
  • Hairline crack from the corner of any panel. Tempered glass usually shatters into cubes when it fails, but a slow stress crack from a misaligned clamp can run for weeks before the panel finally lets go. If you see a crack, that panel needs to be replaced before someone leans on it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In West Palm Beach, expect to pay between $280 and $480 per panel for a standard 6mm or 8mm tempered glass replacement with new gaskets and clamp hardware included in the parts price. A full panel with the top rail section runs $420 to $640 per linear section, depending on whether we are replacing the rail extrusion or can reuse the existing one. If the base shoe anchors are failing, repairing or resetting the shoe adds $90 to $150 per section, which covers pulling the old anchors, drilling and setting new stainless hardware, and resealing the base against water intrusion.

Every quote we write is a line-item price. You see the glass cost, the hardware cost, and the labor separately. The number we quote is the number on the bill. Our parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty and our workmanship is covered by the Done Right Promise. If a panel we set so much as shifts in the clamps within 90 days, we come back and correct it.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the set screws on your top rail with a hex key, and you can photograph the stamp on your glass so you know your model line before you call. That is where the safe DIY ends. A full glass railing panel weighs between 40 and 65 pounds, and tempered glass carries tension through the entire sheet. If a panel is cracked or you are dealing with lifted base anchors, the wrong move turns a $300 parts job into a shattered panel and a fall hazard on a second-story deck. We recommend a trained installer for anything beyond a visual inspection.

If you have a Ply Gem railing panel that is rattling, cracked, or pulling loose anywhere in West Palm Beach, call (561) 264-1279 and tell us what you are seeing. Dale Kessler and our team will give you a straight read on whether it is a hardware adjustment or a full panel replacement, and what it costs before we schedule anything.

★★★★★

"Whole-house window replacement at 71 years old is not something you want to do twice. Dale walked the house himself for the quote. Crew was the same three men all four days, and the foreman knew every window by room."
